Zinc oxide is a naturally occurring mineral used in mineral (or physical) sunscreen as an active ingredient. It sits on the skin’s surface and acts as a physical barrier, reflecting and scattering UVA and UVB rays to protect the skin from sun damage. Unlike chemical sunscreens, it provides broad-spectrum protection without being absorbed into the skin.
